Introduction
The current works of Theo Eissens connect three artistic media. Painting, printing and photography are brought together by combining acrylic paint with silk-screen printing on canvas. By means of these techniques Theo makes a careful distinction between abstraction and figuration. Theo’s painting is fully abstract in his use of rich solid coloured cross bars of acrylic paint on canvas. His painting is in the style of the pure abstract art which rose up again in the sixties as Hard-edge painting, Geometric abstraction, Post-painterly abstraction, Minimalism, etc. Theo uses the graphic part in his compositions for ultimate figurative expression. He does this by silk-screening dynamic city scenes of Amsterdam, Genoa and Berlin on the painted canvas. Theo uses photos of fountains, railways and panoramic views for the purpose of silk-screen printing. |
